On April 13, 2026, Google announced a significant boost to NotebookLM, specifically tailored for academic environments. Educators and students using Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning add-on will now experience a “Plus” version of the AI-powered research assistant.

The “Plus” Badge — Notice a new Plus badge next to your profile picture? This visual cue is likely designed to provide immediate confirmation that your account has been upgraded to the higher usage tier.

What’s Changing?

The update focuses on four key pillars of the NotebookLM experience, removing friction for intensive research and study sessions:

Increased Source Context — Support for significantly more sources in each notebook, allowing for comprehensive projects.

More Daily Queries — Enhanced engagement limits allow users to send more chat queries per day.

Expanded Study Tools — Create more flashcard sets and quizzes, likely aimed at reinforcing learning outcomes.

Rich Multimedia Generation — Increased capacity for Video Overviews, infographics, and slide decks.

Admin Information

NotebookLM is ON by default for these licenses. Administrators can manage access at the domain or group level via the Admin console. Some multimedia features are limited to users 18 and older.

This update reinforces Google’s commitment to making AI a core pedagogical tool, empowering educators to generate diverse study materials and assisting students in synthesizing vast amounts of information.
